Farm Honey & "The Haven Hotel"?

Good Evening Farmers,

I was hoping to be able to share a whole lot of home renovation progress by now; however, the start has been a little slow. If you follow me on Instagram ( @rockhavenfarm_ ) and you saw my story on Tuesday, you know not a lot has happened so far. If you missed Tuesday's story, you can see it in my IG highlights under 5/15 progress.

Here is a little peek of what’s happened so far:

In an earlier post way back when, I showed you the bees that took up residence in Mrs. Colonial’s portico. We had bee expert Benjamin Schmid from Ben’s Bees & Honey out to extract the bees last week. There were actually two separate hives. This first one was seven feet in length inside the portico wall. Ben estimates there were somewhere between 10,000 to 12,000 bees inside and it was one of the biggest hives he's seen!

The bees are going on a short hiatus at Ben’s place for a couple of weeks, and then he’ll return them to the farm in a new location where we’ll be able to start producing our own Rock Haven Farm honey.

Kenwood Fence Company

The fence company put up a temporary security fence along and close to the Spring Lake park trail.

I hate to throw old “charm” away so I had them save the picket fence. I plan on using it to build a charming yet functional enclosure around my future vegetable/herb garden.

Most of the farm fence was taken down in the areas where the earth movers will be doing their thing. I had the guys save this as well because I have an idea to possibly reuse it for either the chicken coop, OR, I have an interior space I haven’t even showed you guys yet where we’ll be creating the “Haven Hotel”. I may use it as an accent wall feature there.

The surveyors have been out the last couple of days to mark all the grading boundaries and the trees that need to be removed.

This afternoon, I spied a . . .

I never thought I’d be so happy to see a backhoe! The ground work FINALLY begins tomorrow morning! I can hardly believe that after first stepping foot on this property back in January 2016 that we’re finally, finally doing this! Let’s go . . .
